Week 6

This was the presentation week. The group met at Race library to work on the short 2 minute powerpoint. The work over the course of the first half of the term was compiled together.

The parts for the prototype were ordered and are expected to arrive before week 7 lab.

This week, we decided that we would no longer fabricate our gear train in the lab due to two reasons: time constraints and the low resolution of the available 3D printer. Instead we are going to use the gear train from the crank flashlight whose ratio is 1:27. This is a sufficiently high ratio that would spin our generator at hopefully enough RPM that the phone charges. We are yet to figure out what the needed RPM is.

We also calculated the number of steps a person takes in a minute (50 steps). And each step would turn the generator 27 times due to the high gear ration. Thus, this should result in 1350 RPM!

Lastly, the generator we have can output around 2V as measure using an oscilloscope.
