Week 4

In week 4, more extensive research was conducted in order for more progress to be made on the project. The type of batteries to be used was chosen and the gear ratios were determined. The batteries will need the capacity to hold and output 5V of energy. The generator that was obtained from reverse engineering the crank flashlight was tested for voltage and ampere output with the use of a voltmeter and an amp meter. It was later realized that the volt and amp meter were too old and needed to be recaliberated, therefore the current specs for the generator are still unknown.

The gear ratios had to be determined so that the gear on the generator spins at the required speed for the generator to put out enough output (not sure what this is yet; will find out through experimenting). The gear train will be the one from the reverse engineered crank flashlight, which has 4 gears and a 1:27 gear ratio.
